Track 1/10 from new DIY series The Forest and the Trees. Future-folk for a changing world. A song a month from my little room over the garage. Live take (vocals and guitar) + a little fairy dust and ornaments added in post.
If my first record was about leaving Earth for another planet, this second one is 'meanwhile back on Earth'. Thematically, The Forest and the Trees suggests people navigating the near-to-medium future as it settles into a new climate reality and increasing fascism - and ultimately getting by through love, solidarity, and hope.
lyrics
Soon or later we fall
I could tell the world can end
So keep an eye
Soon or later that’s all
Someone calls your name with just the barest grin
Someone calls you in to say it all again
So keep a light
Way down inside
Always a light above the window
Two sonatas by nightfall
I would sell the woods to pay for winter words
Group the trees in twos and threes
Somewhere out the fields it’s going on again
Somewhere they can play like it’s the past again
So keep a light
I won’t be long
Let the fire burn out if it wants to
I would sell the woods to pay for winter words
